MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
City grant a second bingo hall license. Slipy felt the
City should look at Mover's Warehouse books, and if it
finds that they have been price gouging, then the City
should take their license away.
LaValle pointed out that the City is not taking a
license away since the bingo hall license is not
guaranteed an automatic renewal.
Slipy indicated that Mover's Warehouse will either have
a bingo hall license or not, and if it does not have a
license it should be justified by something they have
done. If Mover's Warehouse has done something improper
or costs are out of line, then the City has the right
to act harshly against Mover's Warehouse.
Hanson reported that it is the consensus
orqanizations that they wish to relocate
Place Shopping Center based on the price
offered. The organizations want out of
Warehouse buildinq because they feel the
high.
of the
to the Market
that TCF has
the Mover's
rents are too
Slipy asked the City to determine whether or not
Mover's Warehouse is price gouging.
Hanson replied that the City is not making that
statement, but the tenants feel the Mover's Warehouse
rent is too high.
Slipy felt the discussion centered on that the
organizations have indicated that they will be
profitable if they are paying a lower rent. Slipy felt
this was a fallacy
Hanson pointed out that the comment has been made that
the present bingo hall is too big. Hanson asked how
cost effective it was for Mover's Warehouse to decrease
the amount of square footage rented for the bingo hall.
Slipy felt that would be somewhat of a problem,
pointing out the comments made by the charities that
not all are in agreement about the need for a no
smoking room.
Strohbeen reported that Lake Owasso was told that their
rent per session had to be $400 because of the no
smoking room. Strohbeen also asked why Mover's
Warehouse had been charging two of the charities a
lower rent than the others.
Matson reported that NSYA paid $400 per session, and at
the last meeting the comment was made that NSYA agreed
Page 6
