MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
to pay more because of improvement to the hall. Matson
reported that NSYA never made such an agreement. NSYA
was told to sign a lease at $400 per session or not
operate. Matson reported that when NSYA first started
operating the rent was $300 per session and the no
smoking room already existed. Therefore, he did not
believe the increase in rent was due to the addition of
the no smoking room.
Matson pointed out that there are currently only two
charities operating at the bingo hall, five days per
week. Matson reported that the hall needs to operate
seven days per week and a third organization is needed
to do that. Matson reported that NSYA wants the lowest
cost it can get and a full-time operation.
Aanson asked the status of the current leases at LCBH.
Blomberg reported that St. Joe's has a year's lease
with month-to-month options. NSYA's lease runs through
March 31, 1994.
Aanson pointed out the two charities that have dropped
from the LCBH, and indicated that if the remaining
tenants chose not to renew their leases, and there are
no other organizations to take over their places, it
will not be feasible to keep the bingo hall open.
Hanson pointed out that the indication is that the
organizations do not want to lease with Mover's
Warehouse.
Slipy stated that that was because they can get a
better deal somewhere else. However, the organizations
would lease with Mover's Warehouse if the Mover's
Warehouse bingo hall license is renewed.
Hanson pointed out that the issue may also include the
feeling of the organizations of some unfair treatment
by Mover's Warehouse based on the comments back and
forth. Aanson felt the issue included more than just
the economic factor of the rent.
Slipy stated that he would accept that, and stated that
he does not think things have run smoothly over the
last year.
Hanson asked what the City can do if no organizations
want to lease with Mover's Warehouse.
Short stated that the City will do what if feels it has
to do.
The City Administrator felt this was the point the City
Page 7
