MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUI,Y 28, 1993
Maplewood's and Roseville's.
Scalze stated that she did not see that and indicated
that in a lot of cases Little Canada's fees are lower.
Morelan reported that he brought up the issue of the
administration fee for reasons of philosophy. Morelan
indicated that he looked at youth recreation as more
than just play time for kids. Morelan felt it very
important to get kids doing something construction
rather than destructive, and looked at funding of
recreation programs in a similar fashion to funding
education. Morelan agreed with passing on the direct
costs of a recreation program, such as uniform and
equipment costs, but felt that the community-at-larqe
should subsidize salaries.
Pedersen felt that the City's program fees were not
out-of-line, and pointed out that salaries are being
subsidized for the most part.
Hanson felt that until there was a great concern raised
by parents paying the fees, he felt they should remain
as is.
Scalze felt the recreation fees were close to where
they should be, and was not concerned with the fees as
long as one program was not subsidizing another.
It was noted that there were not enough votes by the
Council to change the current recreation fees.
ADJOURN Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 93-7-239 - ADJOURNING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Hanson, Pedersen, LaValle.
Nays (0).
