MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 11, 1993
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 93-8-250 - AWARDING THE LOW BID OF
DTSPOSAL SYSTEMS IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,920 FOR DEMOLITION
OF STRUCTURE AT 34 EAST LITTLE CANADA ROAD SUBJECT TO
COMPLIANCE WITH BID SPECIFICATIONS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Morelan, Hanson, Pedersen, Scalze.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
FIRE DEPT. Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
WORKSHOP moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 93-8-251 - CALLING A WORKSHOP MEETING
WITH THE LITTLE CANADA FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR WEDNESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 8, 1993 AT 6:30 P.M.
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Morelan, Hanson, Scalze, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
BUSINESS Hanson reported that it appears there are an increasing
SURVEY number of commercial and industrial business vacancies
in the City, and felt that the Council needed to take a
pro-active role in identifying what the Council can do
to help businesses. Hanson suggested that the City
send a questionnaire to local businesses to get their
ideas, but pointed out that there is very little that
can be done with tax rates.
Scalze reported that there is a business retention
program that is a part of the Star City Program.
Scalze stated that she was not sure what this program
involved, but thought it included surveys of local
businesses.
Pedersen suggested that a telephone survey might be
more productive than a mailed survey. Pedersen asked
how many businesses were in the City.
The City Administrator reported that the City has a
listing of commercial businesses, but he was unsure of
the number. The Administrator suggested that he put
together the number of City businesses, research the
business retention survey, which is a part of the Star
City Program, and discuss the inclusion of a business
component as part of a community survey. The
Administrator indicated that he would report further to
the Council on this matter.
Page 8
