MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 22, 1993 <br />the north and south <br />casino happens that <br />now. The casino is <br />project. <br />redevelopment project, and if the <br />would be two or three years from <br />not tied to the redevelopment <br />Collyard reported that the success of the project does <br />not hinge on any one retailer. Collyard pointed out <br />that it is the location of the area which is unique, <br />and the success of the project is not predicated on a <br />casino. <br />Pedersen pointed out that reservation land does not <br />generate tax revenue, and asked how a casino would <br />benefit the City. <br />Collyard replied that the benefit to the <br />the money that would be allocated to the <br />success of that type of facility. Collyard reported <br />that many communities are pursuing this same idea, but <br />are not in the position to create trust land and get <br />the necessary approvals. However, there are no <br />guarantees that Little Canada will get a casino. <br />Collyard reported that he is pursuing the anchors and <br />other tenants for the project, and if the casino comes <br />along, it will put Little Canada on the map. <br />LaValle asked if the purchase of The Market Place <br />Shopping Center is being pursued. LaValle also asked <br />what assurance the City has if the south portion of the <br />project gets done, that the north will be completed. <br />Collyard replied that they have tenants for the area. <br />The senior cottages proposed for the north section <br />would pursue those individuals on the waiting lists for <br />the other two senior sites in the City. However, there <br />must be a reasonableness when acquiring land for the <br />project.
