MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 27, 1993
LeBarron reported that it takes a tremendous effort
just to identify the right volunteer for the program.
LeBarron indicated that it was their hope to expand the
program in Little Canada
Scalze asked about other services provided in Little
Canada similar to what is done at Fairview.
LeBarron reported that they are currently workinq on
establishing the elder mentor program at Little Canada
Elementary School, which involves seniors assisting
children in a number of different activities. LeBarron
also reported that the program coordinates
immunizations for seniors.
Scalze reported that based on the 9.7% participation
rate in Little Canada, the City's contribution should
be $1,548.38.
LaValle sugqested funding the entire $1,920 with the
indication that the extra funding should be used for
expansion of the program next year.
LeBarron pointed out that with the addition of The
Mayfield in the City, it is likely the program will
expand.
Scalze pointed out that it is easier to administer the
program at The Mayfield, Garden Terrace Apartments, and
Terrace Heights Mobile Home Court, but the need is
greater for people livinq in single-family homes. It
may be more difficult for these seniors to be as
connected as others.
LeBarron indicated that they would look at this area.
Morelan asked about the City's donating to a
non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
The City Attorney indicated that the donation should be
for a service which benefits the citizens of Little
Canada who are using the program.
The City Administrator recommended a letter of
agreement which outlines the services which will be
provided in exchanqe for the $1,920 in funding.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 93-10-248 - APPROVING THE REQUEST OF THE
ROSEVILLE AREA SENIOR PROGRAM FOR $1,920 IN FUNDING
DURING 1994 FOR TAEIR BLOCKWORKER OUTREACH PROGRAM TO
Page 14
