MIN[)TES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 26, 1994 <br />Dr. Polgreen presented the Council with a booklet <br />entitled "The Vision of Race Unity" which the Baha'is <br />believe is America's most challenging issue. Polgreen <br />reviewed the philosophy of the Baha'i Faith, stating <br />that the oneness of mankind is their central teaching. <br />Polgreen reported that the Little Canada Baha'i <br />Community would like to offer its support to the Mayor <br />and City Council in their efforts to create a <br />harmonious community within Little Canada. <br />The Mayor welcomed the Baha'i Community to Little <br />Canada and thanked them for their important message. <br />PI2EMISE The Council reviewed the premise permit application <br />PF~2MIT for pull-tab site at Gordies Place submitted by the <br />FIRE DEPT. Little Canada Volunteer Fire Department. Staff <br />PULL-TAB reported that it is in the process of processing <br />SITE AT Sheriff's Department background checks for the <br />GORDIES employees at Gordies. <br />Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and <br />moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-1-27 - APPROVING APPLICATION FOR <br />PREMISE PERMIT FOR PULL-TAB SITE AT GORDIES PLACE AS <br />SUBMITTED BY THE LITTLE CANADA VOLUNTEER FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT SUBJECT TO SATISFACTORY RECEIPT OF SHERIFF'S <br />DEPARTMENT BACKGROUND CHECKS <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. <br />Ayes (4) LaValle, Pedersen, Hanson, Morelan. <br />Nays (O). Resolution declared adopted. <br />CoNSENT Council reviewed the consent agenda, askinq for <br />AGENDA additional information on the smart van purchase <br />proposed by the Sheriff's Department. <br />The City Administrator reported that the smart van is a <br />mobile radar unit mounted on a trailer which will <br />display traffic speeds for passing motorists. This <br />unit can also be used for compiling other traffic <br />information in addition to speeds, and can be used to <br />help evaluate traffic conditions in certain areas of <br />the City. This equipment will be used to supplement <br />the work done by the Sheriff's Department's traffic <br />car. Cost is approximately $13,000 and will be shared <br />by the contracting cities based on the allocation of <br />patrol costs. <br />Hanson felt the smart van may act as a deterent to <br />speeders by letting drivers know their speeds. <br />Page 9 <br />
