MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FESRUARY 23, 1993
Scalze asked about use of 10~ funds. Scalze suggested
that there were other places to look for the money to
finance the fire truck, and indicated that she was not
interested in telling other City departments that they
cannot get funding because of the purchase of the fire
truck. Scalze pointed out that some of the other
purchases have been put off for a long time.
The Administrator reported that the Council has to make a
decision on whether or not to proceed with the fire truck
purchase. Once that decision is made, specifications
will be finalized, and the purchase put out for bid.
Once the bids are received, the City will have the
numbers it needs to work with. The Administrator
believed that the financing would work out, but agreed
that a plan was needed in the event the repayment is not
received in time for the new purchase.
Scalze asked how far the process was from bid.
The Administrator thought that the specs would be
completed and ready to put out for bid by May.
Scalze asked if the cost of the truck would increase if
the City waited six months being going out for bid.
Morelan replied that that was unknown until the purchase
is bid, but thought that the manufacturers increased
prices annually at January ist.
Scalze suggested that if that were the case, the truck
could be bid toward the end of the year.
Morelan thought that prices were dependent on delivery
dates.
Pedersen suggested that if the prices of materials
increased during the year, the manufacturer would
certainly pass these increases on rather than increasing
prices only on an annual basis.
Scalze asked where the 13% annual increase figure came
from.
The Administrator replied that that amount was based on
calculations done by the Fire Chief comparing truck
purchase prices over a time span of a few years.
6
