MINUTES CITY COUNCIL APRIL 13, 1994 The Administrator replied that it took into account actual retirements for 1993 and 1994, and the retirements of two members with the most years of service in 1995, 1996, and 1997. Vitale pointed out that the benefit increase to $2,100 will mean a$4,000 increase to the City in required support. The Administrator replied that while it may mean a$4,000 increase in 1995, the effect on future City contributions is not known. The Administrator pointed out that roster changes, investment earnings, and State Aid will also affect the City's contribution. LaValle stated that he was not opposed to the increase if the money is there and it does not create an unusual burden on the City. However, LaValle indicated that he could not vote on something that will affect the 1995 Budget until budget time. Hanson pointed out that the retirees have the option of staying on the Department until budget time to see if an increase is possible. Vitale indicated that an increased pension would be an incentive for some of the older fire fighters to stay on. Vitale felt this was important since there are many young fire fighters on the Department, and the older fire fighters provide leadership and expertise. LaValle pointed out that over the last 6 years the pension has increased from $80o per year of service to $2,050. LaValle also pointed out that the State has increased the maximum benefit level per year of service to $4,000. Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 94-4-91 - ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PENSION BENEFIT LEVEL REMAIN AT $2,050 PER YEAR OF SERVICE The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. Ayes (4) Scalze, Pedersen, Hanson, LaValle. Nays (0). Abstains (1) Morelan. Resolution declared adopted. 12
