MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 13, 1994
BUILDING/ The City Administrator reported that effective August
ZONING 1st, Greg Schmit will replace Larry Squires as the
City's temporary building inspector. Schmit has filled
in for Larry Squires periodically over the past few
months, and has provided excellent service and
expertise to the City. Schmit has proposed to
subcontract this service to the City on a continuinq
basis. The Administrator reported that he has informed
Schmit that he will be completing his review of this
matter with other cities. However, while Schmit is
performing building inspection services for the City on
a temporary basis, that time will be used to evaluate
his service pending a final decision on the matter.
FIRE MARSHALL Morelan asked the status of the Fire Marshal position.
The Administrator reported that he will be requesting
proposals for this service from adjoining cities. Once
those proposals are obtained, the Administrator
reported that he would evaluate them and come back with
a recommendation to the Council. Currently Fire
Marshal duties have been coordinated between the Fire
Chief, Building Inspector and himself.
Pedersen asked the status of code enforcement.
The City Administrator reported that he has been
handling code enforcement issues along with the
Building Inspector and Public Works Superintendent, but
felt the City would be best served by hiring an intern
to handle these duties.
Scalze was concerned about code enforcement during non-
summer months, as well as code enforcement specifically
in Ryan Industrial Park.
The Administrator felt that should an intern be hired,
Ryan Industrial Park would be the intern~s first
assignment. The intern would have to identify and
prioritize the issues and then work with property
owners to resolve those issues.
Scalze was concerned that an intern working only summer
months would not be able to accomplish what is needed.
The Administrator suggested that perhaps a 9 to 12
month intern would be needed initially.
