MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 24, 1994 <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS Hanson reported that the City needs two election judges <br />from the IR Party to serve at the November General <br />Election. Interested parties can contact City Hall at <br />484-2177. <br />Hanson read a letter from Gar and Susan Johnson <br />thanking Ramsey County Sheriff's Deputies Bruce Jerome <br />and Phil Chelstrom for assistance in delivering their <br />baby on August 12th. <br />Morelan thanked the volunteers on the Canadian Days <br />Committee for all their efforts and hard work in <br />putting on this year's Celebration. Hanson commented <br />that the Canadian Days Committee appreciated the help <br />of the City Council Members as well. <br />ZONING TEXT Hanson opened the Public Hearing to consider the <br />AMENDMENT application of Abra Auto Body & Glass for Zoning Text <br />& CUP FOR Amendment to define minor auto body repair as a <br />AUTO BODY conditional use in the B-2 and B-3 Zoning Districts, <br />REPAIR IN as well as Conditional Use Permit for auto body repair <br />B-2 & B-3 in the B-3 District in order to construct and operate <br />ABRA AUTO a 6,848 square foot retail facility on the Schroeder <br />BoDY & GLASS property on Rice Street. Hanson reported that the <br />Planning Commission recommended approval of the Zoning <br />Text Amendment by a vote of six in favor and none <br />against, and approval of the CUP with five in favor and <br />one against. <br />Mike Klein, representing Abra, appeared before the <br />Council reporting that Abra is proposing to construct <br />an approximately 7,000 square foot, single-story <br />building on Rice Street. Access would be via a private <br />road on the south side of the property. The building <br />would be all masonry construction. Approximately 1,000 <br />square feet would be devoted to office area, with the <br />remaining footage body shop space. Overhead doors <br />would be located on the south side of the building. <br />Entrance to the body shop would be via the rear of the <br />building, with cars exiting at the front. Klein <br />described the parking pointing out that storage of <br />vehicles overnight would occur at the rear of the <br />property within a screened parking area. <br />Klein reported that the site is 1 1/2 acres in size. <br />Setbacks would exceed minimum standards.
