*"Little Canada is missing a lot just by its
location."
*"Need more jobs in the community; I want to
work in the same community in which I live."
Those present discussed the issues and concerns raised
by the focus group at some length. Consensus was that
the quality of life can mean different things to
different people. Improved transportation systems,
enhanced police protection, redevelopment of the Rice
Street area could all result in enhancement of quality
of life. It was suggested that the community survey
include a question on quality of life in order to
determine what this means to the residents of Little
Canada.
Morelan asked how much time it took to complete a
survey of this nature.
Morris replied that a 107 to 108 question survey would
take between 22 and 24 minutes to complete. Morris
also reported that response rate to these surveys is
very high, with only a 3 to 4 percent hang-up rate.
Morris reported that a 400 random sample would be
surveyed which results in a plus or minus 5% accuracy
rate.
Hanson reported that he knew of no one who participated
in the 1988 survey. Scalze reported that she knew of
two residents who were called.
Davison asked why the City did not publish the results
of the 1988 survey when it was completed.
Scalze felt this was a good point which should be kept
in mind when the new survey is completed.
Based on the issues raised by the focus group, Morris
submitted a draft survey for review. Morris reported
that the survey introduction is a standard one, and
agreed that a question on what is important to the
respondent's quality of life can be added.
Morelan suggested that another question to be asked was
if the respondent did not live in Little Canada, which
city would they like to live in and why. Carson
suggested that the survey ask whether or not the
respondent worked in Little Canada.
LaValle suggested that question #6 ask for more than
one issue of concern from the respondent.
3
