MINi7PES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 12, 1994
At this point in the meeting a short video was shown of
the townhome fire and the efforts of the fire
department in containing the blaze. The Chief reported
that the blaze was started by some oily rags and
spontaneous combustion. It is through fire prevention
efforts that people become more aware of these dangers
and can make efforts toward prevention.
The Mayor read the letters of appreciation which were
sent to the Highway Patrol and the Ramsey County
Sheriff's Department acknowledging the efforts of the
patrol officer and deputies during the fire. The Mayor
also read some letters which were sent by private
citizens acknowledging and thanking the Fire Department
for their efforts.
The Mayor reported that four fire fighters assisted in
a rescue of a woman from a balcony during the townhome
fire. The Mayor presented these fire fighters with
Certificates of Appreciation for their efforts. The Chief noted that a lot of
good things have been accomplished in the last 5 to 7
years, and without the efforts of the City and Fire
Department, the fire fighters could not be as
professional as they are.
Jim Sabean, Fire Prevention Committee Chair, reported
that the Little Canada Fire Department has an on-going
fire prevention program. During the course of the year
the Fire Department works with schools, day care
facilities, scouting troops, etc. providing education
5
