MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 26, 1994
LOUD STEREO
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Morelan, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen, Scalze.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The City Attorney presented a proposed ordinance which
prohibits the use of loud stereos in motor vehicles in
a manner which disturbs the peace.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following ordinance and
moved its adoption:
ORDINANCE NO. 391 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 601
OF THE CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF LITTLE CANADA BY
PROHIBITING THE USE OF RADIOS AND OTHER SOUND DEVICES
IN MOTOR VEHICLES IN A MANNER WHICI3 DISTURBS TI-IE PEACE
The foregoing ordinance was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Morelan, Pedersen, Hanson, Scalze.
Nays (0). Ordinance declared adopted.
Pedersen asked if the City had the same type of
ordinance regulating the use of stereo equipment in
residences.
The City Attorney replied that this would be regulated
under State Law as well as the City's nuisance
ordinance.
There was some discussion by the Council that it
appears that the Sheriff~s Department was not enforcing
violations of the ordinance with regard to loud stereos
or radios in apartments or residential homes. The
Council asked the City Attorney to contact the
Sheriff~s Department to inform them of options and to
request they utilize them to address this type of
problem.
LICEN5E & The City Attorney submitted proposed ordinances as
PERMIT FEES well as a resolution which increase license and permit
fees for mechanical, electrical, hauler, and
contractors as recommended by City staff.
It was suggested that the ordinances be amended in
order to give the Council the authority to increase
these fees by Council resolution in the future, rather
than an ordinance amendment.
20
