MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 29, 1994
The Administrator suggested that the Council discuss
the 10~ Fund and asked for comments and direction
regarding the Committee~s recommendations.
Morelan stated that he did not want to authorize
expenditures for more money than the City has on hand.
The Administrator replied that purchases would be held
in abeyance until the City had the dollars.
Hanson asked the Council~s impressions of the City
entrance sign on Edgerton Street.
The Council felt the sign was too high and too small.
Pedersen felt that the color as well may have something
to do with the fact that the sign is difficult to see.
The Administrator reported that the Community Pride
Committee has identified nine locations for these
signs. The Committee felt that 9 signs and 2 extras
should be ordered at one time in order to save costs.
It is their estimate that the budget amount may have to
be increased to $9,500 or $9,600 to accomplish this.
Pedersen pointed out that the Committee was not
enthusiastic about the City Center informational sign.
Estimated cost of that sign is $35,000.
Scalze stated that she was more comfortable with a
monument-type sign.
Morelan stated that he was comfortable with the 10%
list as is.
Scalze stated that she was not comfortable with going
the whole distance in funding all the items. Scalze
stated that she would like to approve $15,000 for the
monument sign since that was allocated in 1994.
Morelan pointed out that when the sign committee met it
was agreed that a sign was required, and estimated cost
would be $5,000 to $10,000. Another $5,000 to $10,000
was allocated for an informational sign. The sign
committee's thoughts were to combine the two signs into
one structure with an electronic message board that the
City could use to advertise events. Morelan felt this
would be a good expenditure, and pointed out that levy
dollars would not be used to fund it.
11
