MINU'PES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVENIBER 24, 1994
Pedersen pointed out that the Pride Committee felt that
the site lines at the City Center were not conducive to
the type of sign beinq proposed, as well as the fact
that probably only a third of the City drives by City
Hall regularly.
Morelan reported that the sign committee discussed this
as well, and felt that since the message on the siqn
would not be changed daily but every week or two,
within that time period the majority of citizens do
drive by City Hall. The committee considered
alternative sites, but could not come up with any.
Scalze pointed out that the freeway intersection is
probably the most used by the majority of residents in
the City. Scalze felt that it unfair to construct a
$35,000 City informational sign in a location where
many residents will not see it.
The Director pointed out that there would be problems
activating a sign in any other location than City Hall.
Scalze did not believe that would be an insurmountable
problem.
Hanson pointed out that there is more visibility at the
Fire Station site. However, given the traffic volummes
in that area, it may not be a safe location for the
sign.
Pedersen felt given the cost of the message board, it
was not a viable option. Hanson agreed that there were
more important things to spend money on than a moving
message board. Hanson noted that residents can obtain
information by calling the City Center, reading the
City's newsletter and the Little Canada Press, and
viewing the Cable TV channel.
Scalze stated that she would have a problem amending
the City's sign ordinance to allow such signs only on
Public property.
Morelan felt there was more benefit to a message board
sign than a monument sign saying that this is City
Hall. Morelan felt the value for the dollars is in
getting a message out to the community.
Pedersen felt the City could do a lot of things with
12
