Fahey stated that should the pawn shop take in <br />an item and not report it to the Sheriff's Department <br />for 30 days, under the 2 month redemption period, this <br />would only give the Sheriff's Department 30 days to <br />investigate. Fahey wanted to make sure the Sheriff's <br />Department has 6o days in which to investigate. <br />Charles Wedemeyer, owner of Lincoln Pawn and Jewelry, <br />stated that daily reports are made to the Sheriff's <br />Department. <br />Fahey pointed out that the Sheriff's Department is <br />recommending a 60-day holding period, rather than a 60- <br />day redemption period. <br />The City Attorney recommended that the time period be <br />changed from 30 days to 6o days. <br />Pedersen also suggested that the ordinance refer to a <br />60 day redemption period, rather than 2 month <br />redemption period. <br />Mr. LaValle introduced the following ordinance and <br />moved its adoption: <br />ORDINANCE N0. 398 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS <br />818.220. AND 818.280. OF TI~E MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF LITTLE CANADA RELATING TO BOTH THE HOLDING PERIOD <br />AND REDEMPTION PERIOD FOR PAWNED GOODS AS AMENDED BY <br />THE COUNCIL <br />The foregoing ordinance was duly seconded by Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) LaValle, Scalze, Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen. <br />Nays (0). Ordinance declared adopted. <br />PAWN SHOP The City Administrator reported that the Investigator <br />LICENSE at the Sheriff's Department initially reported that he <br />FEE spends approximately 20 hours per month reviewing <br />transactions at Lincoln Pawn & Jewelry. Based on that <br />initial estimate, the Sheriff~s Department was asked <br />for actual figures, and reported that 14 hours per <br />month are spent, with more time if stolen goods are <br />discovered. <br />The Administrator reported that the City's pawn shop <br />license fee currently is $1,500 per year plus a$300 <br />investigation fee.
