MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 18, 1995 <br />Gustafson indicated that he could go either way on the <br />road reconstruction portion of the project, pointing <br />out that sooner or later the road will be improved. <br />LaValle pointed out that it will cost more to improve <br />the road later. <br />Carol Kreeger indicated that the road was in worse <br />shape at her end of the street. Kreeger stated that <br />she supported the water main. Kreeger asked how the <br />road would be repaired if it were torn up as part of a <br />water main only project. <br />The City Engineer replied that the road would simply be <br />repaired to the condition that it is today. <br />Fahey pointed out that the water main only option <br />includes costs for patching that would be better spent <br />towards bringinq the road up to today's standards. <br />Kreeger was concerned that road reconstruction would <br />disturb trees. Kreeger stated that she would like to <br />see the road improved, but if the project takes down <br />trees, then her position would be different. <br />Morelan pointed out that even if the road is not <br />improved at this time, it will be eventually, and <br />whatever trees are affected will have to come down. <br />The City Engineer reported that the cul-de-sac which <br />would be improved at the end of Viking Drive would <br />likely be smaller than the standard. The City would be <br />careful to limit tree removal and possibly could offset <br />the cul-de-sac within the State's right-of-way to avoid <br />trees. <br />Kreeger asked what the life expectancy of the road <br />would be if it would not be improved at this time. <br />The Engineer pointed out that the condition of the road <br />varies quite a bit, and that the portion of the road in <br />the best condition will be disturbed by the water main <br />project. <br />The Public Works Superintendent estimated the road's <br />life at 4 to 5 years. <br />The City Administrator pointed out that the road <br />7 <br />
