MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 25, 1995
on the applicant to show that the house would have no
effect on existing property values. Fahey suggested
that the City Attorney and City Planner review the
current ordinances to ensure that any house moved in
must have a value compatible with those of the existing
neighborhood.
Morelan pointed out that someone could come in a build
a stick-built house with a value much less than other
homes in a neighborhood. Morelan suqgested that the
ordinance address that situation as well.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 95-1-26 - DECLARING A 90-DAY MORATORIUM
ON THE MOVING OF EXISTING HOUSES INTO LITTLE CANADA AND
INSTRUCTING THE CITY ATTORNEY AND CITY PLANNER TO
REVIEW CURRENT ORDINANCES RELATING TO THIS ISSUE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Fahey, Pedersen, Morelan.
Nays (O). Resolution declared adopted.
The City Planner pointed out that current Code
establishes a minimum home size of 1,040 square feet.
Under the Code someone could move in a 500 square foot
house and add onto it to meet minimum size
requirements.
Fahey felt that the ordinance needed to be tighten up
and should include requirements that should a small
home be moved into the City and an addition put on, the
siding of the entire structure must match, the
structure should fit into the existing neighborhood,
etc.
The Planner stated that his concern was that the same
ordinance requirements should be enforced against
someone moving a house into the City and someone
applying for a building permit to stick-build a house.
Fahey stated that he did not want to make it easy to
move a substandard house into the City.
There was no one from the general public present
wishing to address the Council on the Graf application
for CUP.
12
