MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 8, 1995
questions. Scalze reported that she has heard from
residential property owners in the area of City Hall
who are opposed to signage that would include a
scrolling message. These property owners prefer the
area to look as residential as possible.
Pedersen felt the proposed question format was not
proper for a community survey.
LaValle did not believe that funding sources needed to
be discussed.
Fahey suggested that perhaps the survey should ask if
residents know where City Hall is located, and how many
feel they need informational signs at locations other
than City Hall to let them know about City functions.
Fahey suggested that if everyone knows where City Hall
is, perhaps there is no need to spend $15,000 for a
monument sign. Fahey suggested that if the City wanted
such a sign, perhaps there are volunteers willing to
construct it.
Pedersen suggested that if the survey shows that
residents do not know what is going on in the City,
then the Council needs to discuss what needs to be
done.
Fahey stated that if the survey shows that 80% of
residents know what is going on in the City, then
perhaps there is no need to put up a sign with an
electronic message.
It was pointed out that the City distributes
information in its newsletter, as well as flyers to
school children.
Fahey suggested that the survey ask if residents have
adequate access to information related to City events,
as well as ask if residents know where City Hall is.
At least three Council Members were agreeable.
Fahey also suggested a question asking if residents
have sufficient sources of information regarding City
meetings, registrations, and other civic and recreation
program activities. At least three Council Members
agreed to this question.
Fahey suggested a question asking if residents favored
16
