These <br />include: <br />*The principles will orient the community to the <br />future; <br />*The principles include imagination; <br />*They recognize the current conditions and community <br />traditions that exist; <br />*They identify a shared understanding; <br />*The principles will become tools for evaluation of <br />development proposals; <br />*There will be conflict in moving forward. The City <br />will have to decide whether to follow the plan or <br />modify it slightly in evaluating future development <br />proposals. <br />*The principles become a basis for coordination and <br />cooperation; <br />*The process will not be implemented all at once. The <br />development plan will be something that the City can <br />look back on on a regular basis. <br />Joe Vitale stated that it was his understanding that <br />the workshop this evening was a joint one between the <br />City Council and Planning Commission to work on the <br />Rice Street study. Vitale reported that the general <br />public did not know they were supposed to be here <br />participating this evening. <br />Schroeder replied that the consulting group is open to <br />as much public input as possible, but noted that they <br />need a beginning base of information. There will still <br />be opportunities for adjustment. <br />Fahey noted that the intention was for a smaller group <br />of participants in the workshop meetings, and more <br />public participation at the town meetinqs. However, <br />anyone interested in being involved is welcomed. <br />Fifield stated that everyone present this evening was <br />representative of the community.
