MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 24, 1995
road? Fahey stated that when he looks at Keller
Parkway and considers the safety of the area, he feels
better about what Little Canada did than what Maplewood
did. Fahey pointed out that the Council tries to
balance out the interests of the public as best it can.
Mrs. Martin felt that the road project did not make the
Jackson/Old C/Lakeshore area any safer.
Fahey acknowledged that the project has been a
difficult one. The City will be following up with the
contractor and correcting any problems which exists.
Next spring if the project is not to the standards that
the residents want to see, Fahey stated that he would
expect the residents to let the Council know.
Mr. Engebretson asked if property taxes will increase
next year.
Fahey replied that if assessed valuations increase,
property taxes will increase. Fahey stated that he did
not think there was a direct correlation between the
amount of valuation increase and the assessment amount.
Assessments must meet the benefits received text, but
Fahey did not believe that benefits received meant an
equivalent increase in assessed valuation.
Mrs. Shelley, 124 old County Road C, pointed out that
concern has been expressed for people walking around
the lake, but no concern for people walking along
Jackson/Old C/Lakeshore. Mrs. Shelley reported that
there are cars speeding through the area. When the
curves were wider and there was no curb and gutter,
there was more room for walkers to get off the street.
Mrs. Shelley pointed out that residents wanted a
walkway on one side of the street, however, the City
would not do it.
Scalze pointed out the trail improvement along Jackson
Street to get walkers and bikers off the street.
Mrs. Shelley stated that children from Lakeshore will
not use the Jackson 5treet trail, but will walk along
the street. Mrs. Shelley reported that drivers coming
from the condos and from Hoggsbreath fly through the
area.
Scalze stated that the City did not want to stripe a
walking path along the street since it was felt that
would not be a safe situation.
10
