MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARy 10, 1996
problems and resolved them.
Fahey stated that he has two biases. First, the
decision must be cost-effective. A$1,400 difference
is a big concern, and the Council owes it to the
taxpayers to look at that issue. Secondly, Fahey felt
that the Little Canada Press covers the City much
better. There are more articles of general public
interest. Fahey asked if Enright could improve this
kind of coverage in the Review.
Enright stated that it was difficult to compare the two
newspapers. Enright felt the Review did more in-depth
reporting, and stated that if the City would like to
see a broader spectrum of reporting, they can do that.
Harold Feichert asked if the Review would include a
local sports section covering Little Canada sports
teams as well as LCRA news.
Enright replied that can be done.
Morelan pointed out that the legal newspaper
designation means publishing of minutes and notices in
a newspaper. The Council would be doing nothinq which
would affect the reporting of the news in either paper.
Scalze pointed out that the City is trying to get some
bang for its buck. Scalze agreed that $1,400 was a
significant cost savings, and pointed out that the
Review has done a good job for the City printing
articles which are quite accurate.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 96-1-3 - DESIGNATING THE LILLIE SUBURBAN
NEWSPAPER AS THE CITY'S LEGAL NEWSPAPER FOR 1996 BASED
ON THE COST SAVINGS IN DOING SO, AS WELL AS THE FACT
THAT LILLIE SUBURBAN HAS ASSURED THE CITY THAT TAE
NEWSPAPER WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FREE-OF-CHARGE TO ALL
PROPERTY OWNERS WITHIN THE CITY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Pedersen, Fahey, Morelan.
Nays (0).
