MINLJTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 14, 1996
drafting plans.
Morelan felt everyone needed to realize that Canadian
Days is not driving this project, and the City is not
putting in a shelter for a three-day celebration. This
would be an improvement with City-wide benefit will be
used many months each year. Canadian Days has
indicated the shelter will not enhance the celebration
that much. It will provide some additional cover in
the event of bad weather, and will result in public
restrooms in Spooner Park.
Pedersen asked if there will be a need to expand the
the parking lot.
Morelan replied that the general consensus at the
committee meeting was that parking was adequate.
However, the suggestion was made that there should be a
paved area from the parking lot to the shelter.
Fahey suggested the City begin the ground work for the
shelter.
LaValle asked if the Council will have an opportunity
to discuss the matter again.
Fahey replied that the matter will be brought back to
the Council for final decision.
Morelan reported the committee discussed the fact that
the project will be handled by the Parks & Recreation
Commission who would be responsible for conducting
public meetings to obtain input on the project.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 96-2-39 - DIRECTING CITY STAFF TO HIRE
AN ARCHITECT TO DRAFT PLANS AND COST ESTIMATES FOR A
PARK SHELTER AT SPOONER PARK, AS WELL AS PREPARE COST
ESTIMATES FOR MOVING THE EXISTING SHELTER FROM SPOONER
PARK TO PIONEER PARK, AND FURTHER INSTRUCTING STAFF TO
PURSUE ALTERNATIVE FUNDING SOURCES FOR THIS PROJECT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Fahey, Pedersen, LaValle.
Nays (0).
