MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 14, 1996
*Proceed with a modified rehab based on recommendations
of the Building Official.
Fahey pointed out that the third option would involve
limiting the use of the top floor to storage, and the
remodeling of the bottom floor to meet ADA
requirements. Fahey noted the correspondence from
Ramsey County Department of Public Health outlining
temporary food service licensing requirements. It
appears that based on this requirements, LCRA would be
able to continue the use of the lower level of the old
fire station for their fund-raising efforts.
The City Administrator agreed, but pointed out that the
only requirement of any concern is that food service
equipment must comply with the appropriate standards of
the National Sanitation Foundation.
Hanson reported that the vendors at the Canadian Days
Celebration are subject to these requirements. In
order to comply, a commercial refrigerator had to be
rented.
Fahey suggested that the County be requested to take a
look at the kitchen area and indicate what type of
equipment would be needed.
Fahey stated that the biggest issue is that it is not
feasible to renovate the building making both levels
public accessible. Fahey felt that the storage option
should be considered for the upstairs, and that the use
of the downstairs be debated. Fahey suggested that the
downstairs would not meet the needs of the Historical
Society for display purposes.
Kathy Hanson indicated that if the Historical Society
were allowed to use the downstairs, it would need that
area in its entirety. Lorraine Rosauer pointed out
that the Historical Society does not need the kitchen
area.
Fahey indicated that it did not make sense to dismantle
the kitchen and take this use away from the LCRA so
that the Historical Society can move into the basement.
Morelan asked if the stairway could be eliminated
between the two levels, and each level then made
handicapped accessible.
2
