MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 10, 1996 <br />CITY CENTER The City Administrator reported that he was unable to <br />ID SIGN obtain more information on options for reducing the <br />cost of the proposed City Center identification sign in <br />time for tonight's meeting. <br />Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and <br />moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 96-4-84 - TABLING ACTION ON THE CITY <br />CENTER IDENTIFICATION SIGN WITH THE INDICATION THAT THE <br />CITY IS LOOKING FOR PEOPLE IN THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS <br />WHO COULD ASSIST THE CITY WITH TIiI5 PROJECT <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Fahey, Pedersen, LaValle. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />FIRE Fahey pointed out the recommendation of the Fire <br />SUPPRESSION Chief and staff is that one building at The Provinces <br />AT THE be sprinkled, given there is not enough funding <br />PROVINCES to do both buildings. Estimated cost of doing both <br />buildings is $140,000. Dominium Group, owners of The <br />Provinces, have set aside $43,000 for this work. <br />Therefore, in order to sprinkle one building at a cost <br />of $70,000, it would require $43,000 from Dominium and <br />$27,000 of the City's loan origination fee from The <br />Provinces. <br />The City Administrator reported the consensus of the <br />committee was that having one building sprinkled was <br />better than none. <br />LaValle questioned whether it was an appropriate use of <br />the City's loan origination fee to assist a private <br />developer. <br />Morelan asked if the cost of sprinkling one building is <br />under-budget, if the result would be that the City's <br />share of the cost would be decreased. <br />The City Administrator replied that that stipulation <br />should be made if the sprinkling project goes forward. <br />Fahey felt the agreement should read that the City will <br />fund the cost of sprinkling one building above the <br />$43,000 amount. <br />Scalze pointed out the use of City funds for sprinkling <br />a private buildinq is a policy question which must be <br />decided by the Council.
