MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 10, 1996
assured that the building will be safe. Fahey pointed
out, however, that the Building Inspector would be
reviewing the plans, as well as the City Engineer who,
hopefully, would sign off on them. Fahey suggested the
Park & Recreation Commission come up with a shelter
design working with Bill Sanders.
Scalze did not believe Bill Sanders was a building
designer. Scalze felt picnic shelters were pretty
commonplace, and that the Commission could look at
existing shelters and find one they like.
Pedersen asked if there were books of standard picnic
shelters.
The City Administrator replied that there were
catalogues, but these shelters are not the size and
type being proposed. The Administrator pointed out
that the discussion has been for a picnic shelter with
restroom facilities, a serving area, and fire place.
LaValle pointed out there is a new shelter at Phalen
and suggested the Commission look at some existing
shelters.
Fahey suggested there is time to study this project in
more detail since construction on the shelter would not
beqin until after Canadian Days. Fahey indicated he
would like to see design costs reduced to the $2,000
range.
The Administrator suggested that the Park & Recreation
Commission and Canadian Days get together, tour some
existing shelters, and come up with what they want for
Spooner Park. Once the design of the building is
decided upon, it is likely the architect's design costs
can be reduced.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 96-4-83 - TABLING ACTION ON PROPOSALS
FOR DESIGN SERVICES FOR THE SPOONER PARK PICNIC SHELTER
PENDING A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE PARK & RECREATION
COMMISSION AND CANADIAN DAYS COMMITTEE ON SHELTER
DESIGN
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fahey.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Fahey, Morelan, Pedersen, Scalze.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
6
