MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 24, 1996 <br />Van when it was last parked on Little Canada Road. <br />It was suggested that in addition to painting the <br />crosswalks, that signs be installed alerting drivers to <br />the crosswalks. Scalze suggested that the crosswalk at <br />the bottom of the church steps may be too close to <br />Little Canada Road. Pedersen agreed. <br />Fahey felt a crosswalk in that location was <br />appropriate, given the number of people crossinq the <br />street on Sundays on their way to church services. <br />LaValle suggested that the County may not install a <br />crosswalk at the bottom of the church steps since there <br />are no curb cuts in that location. Council felt that <br />the County will look at that issue. <br />Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved <br />its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 96-4-101 - REQUESTING THAT THE COUNTY <br />PAINT A CROSSWALK ON MCMENEMY ROAD IN LINE WITH THE <br />BOTTOM OF THE CHURCH STEPS <br />The fo'regoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, Scalze, LaValle, Pedersen, Morelan. <br />Nays (O). Resolution declared adopted. <br />FREEWAY Fahey suggested the need for the City to become more <br />SOUND proactive in trying to get freeway sound barriers <br />BARRIERS installed. Fahey suggested that the City have a <br />continuing dialogue with its legislators as well as the <br />appropriate State agencies. <br />Helgeson reported the need for an extension of the <br />existing sound barrier on the east side of the freeway, <br />pointing out that noise is carried across the lake. <br />Morelan agreed there was a need for the State to look <br />at this issue given that Little Canada was cut in half <br />by the freeway system. <br />Pedersen reported that it was his understanding that <br />noise can bounce off a freeway sound barrier and can be <br />projected to an area up to three blocks from the <br />freeway. <br />Helgeson reported that noise is bounced off the center <br />divider of the freeway and comes across the lake. <br />Helgeson felt that an extension of the sound barrier <br />16 <br />
