MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 22, 1996
unnecessary.
Morelan suggested the City come up with some reasonable
restrictions, and then invite the cigarette license
holders in for their comments.
Scalze stated that she would like to hear both sides of
the issue. Fahey felt it was obvious what non-smokers
associations would have to say and indicated that he
was not interested in a presentation from these groups.
LaValle indicated he was not interested in banning
vending machines.
Fahey asked for more information on regulations which
the surrounding cities have imposed.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 96-5-130 - TABLING ACTION ON THE MATTER
OF TOBACCO REGULATIONS UNTIL THE JUNE 26, 1996 REGULAR
COUNCIL MEETING AND DIRECTING STAFF TO OBTAIN FURTHER
INFORMATION ON REGULATIONS WHICH SURROUNDING CITIES
HAVE IMPOSED
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
PERMANENT The City Administrator reported that the Parks &
BATTING CAGE Recreation Director is seeking $2,000 in funding from
AT PIONEER the City toward the ins tallation of a permanent batting
PARK cage at Pioneer Park. Total estimated cost of the
project is $15,500, and donations are being sought for
the remaining funds.
Scalze noted the batting cage is proposed next to the
basketball court. Scalze suggested due to the heavy
use of this court, the City may want to double the size
in the future. Therefore, adequate space should be
left for that purpose.
LaValle noted the Director is recommending that the
$2,000 come from the City's 10% Fund. LaValle
suggested the funding come from the Parks & Recreation
Budget.
Morelan felt the project more closely met the criteria
for 10% funding.
16
