MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NNE 26, 1996
ROOFING BID The City Administrator reported that the City only
FOR OLD received one quote for roof replacement at the old
FIRE STATION fire station. That was from Berwald Roofing in the
amount of $13,420. Berwald had previously submitted a
quote in the amount of $9,705 for roof replacement
prior to the roof being designed by the City's
architect. The architect's specifications is a
different design than what Berwald originally quoted.
Slopes have been changed and parapets added. The
Administrator indicated that while these are major
modifications, he was not sure they warranted the
additional dollars. Another factor in the difference
in the prices is that this is a very busy season.
There is also the issue of coordinating roof
replacement with the renovation work at the fire
station.
Morelan agreed that the deadlines need to be
coordinated, but suggested that the City Administrator
try to determine if the additional dollars are
warranted.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 96-6-146 - AWARDING THE BID OF BERWALD
ROOFING FOR REPLACEMENT OF ROOF AT OLD FIRE STATION AT
A COST NOT TO EXCEED $13,420
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, LaValle, Pedersen, Fahey.
Nays (0). Adoption of this plan is
PLAN necessary to maintain the City's eligibility for the
various grant programs available through the
Metropolitan Council.
Morelan noted that the Plan refers to Little Canada as
a first-rinq suburb. Morelan pointed out that Little
Canada does not border St. Paul.
The City Planner replied that first-ring suburbs are
fully developed communities with some older housing
stock in need of upgrades. Second-ring suburbs are
typically developing suburbs.
Morelan pointed out that the Plan calls for 268 new
8
