MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
~CTOBER 23, 1996
Fahey suggested that the status of the 10% Fund could
be tabled until a decision is made on the Historical
Society Addition.
LaValle agreed. LaValle pointed out that another
consideration with the Historical Society Addition is
the potential need for additional employees.
Fahey noted that it is clear that a majority of the
Council favors going forward with the Historical
Society Addition.
Scalze stated that she did not see the City eventually
running the Historical Society, and pointed out that
should the Historical Society not exist in the future,
the City would always be able to put the additional
space to use.
The City Administrator recommended that the Council
make a decision on the Historical Society Addition as
part of its review of the Capital Improvement Budget.
This Budget will be presented to the Council at the
next budget workshop. Funding will be allocated as if
the project is going forward. If it does not, those
dollars can be re-allocated.
The Administrator noted that the City~s Truth In
Taxation Hearing is scheduled for December 3rd. Budget
workshops will need to be concluded by that date, and
the Administrator recommended that the Capital
Improvement Budget as well as salaries be discussed at
the next workshop. If necessary, there would be time
to schedule one more workshop after that time.
Scalze suggested that the Arcade Street project should
be discussed as part of the Budget process given that
assessments for the project would be effected if access
is provided via Little Canada property on Arcade Street
to serve the Little Canada property abutting Maplewood.
Fahey was not sure this access would directly relate to
the road improvement. The Administrator pointed out
that the City can stub in utilities for the property
east of Arcade Street if is knows approximately where
the road will go.
It was the consensus of the Council to schedule the
next Budget workshop for Tuesday, November 19, 1996 at
7 P.M. at which time the Capital Improvements Budget
and salaries will be discussed.
5
