MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 27~ 1996
times of future workshops on this issue will be
publicized.
Ray Hanson, Historical Society, reported that while the
Historical Society is classified as a private
organization it is open to anyone interested in
joining. Aanson reported that Little Canada is steep
in heritage and has a very unique history. This
heritage and history is of interest to many people.
Historical Society documents have been used as
reference material by many people in tracing ancestry,
family histories, etc. Hanson pointed out that the
Historical Society has opened its doors to the school
children within the City to educate them in this
history. Aanson further noted that there are other
areas where the City spends public money and these
expenditures are not in full agreement with everyone in
the City. Hanson reported that Historical Society
members do not volunteer their time for personal gain,
but in order to preserve the history of the City.
Fahey indicated that the subject of the Historical
Society Addition will be a topic of discussion at a
future meeting.
CRIME Morelan stated that he would like to see neighborhood
PREVENTION watch groups established in every neighborhood.
Morelan felt neighborhood watch was a way of protecting
neighborhoods as well as providing a means for
neighbors to get to know one another.
Pedersen agreed, and suggested that the City also
promote block parties so that neighbors get to know one
another. Pedersen asked if there was a promotional
video for Neighborhood Watch which the City could run
on its Cable TV channel.
The City Administrator reported that a new Crime
Prevention Officer is just coming on staff at the
Sheriff's Department. However, this is one staff
person to serve the contracting cities with a
population of 70,000 people. The Administrator
reported that the contractinq cities have asked that
the Crime Prevention Officer have a planned work
directive and measurable outcomes. The Administrator
suggested that an annual meeting of elected officials
of the contracting cities and the Sheriff's Department
would be helpful to discuss issues such as this in a
joint forum.
11
