MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MARCH 12, 1997 preserve the integrity of the water fund. Water rates were last increased four years ago. The Administrltor reported that he compared the City's rates with those of nei~hboring communities and found the proposed rate is competitive given the fact that the water the City provides is already softened. Morelan indicated that a 6.3% increase is high, and suggested rather than impose a large increase every four years, the City consider smaller increases every couple of years. The Administrator reported that he has tried to hold off increases in rates. Morelan pointed out t6at the City has talked about establishing fees and then setting a certain percentage increase each year to ensure fees remain competitive with what other cities are charging. Scalze suggested water rates be looked at again in a couple of years. The City Administrator reported that he reviews these Fees annually to ensure they are adequate to cover the City's costs. Ayes (4) Morelan, Scalze, Pedersen, Fahey. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. FIRE DEPT. The Fire Department has requesCed a workshop with the City Council.
