1VIINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />APRIL 9, 1997 <br />Wilzbacher reported that having CAO's walking the hallways and <br />observing and reporting has been a big benefit. <br />Morelan felt there were many neighborl~ood waYch groups which have <br />become it~active, and asl<ed if Wilzbacher was ~oing to attempt to get <br />these groups starCed a~ain, as well as try to start ~roups in every <br />neighborhood ofthe City. <br />Wilzbacher reported that he l~as contacted block captains of all the <br />neighborliood watch groups, and has requested the groups become active <br />again. 50% of the groups are still active and are very much interested in <br />meeting with the Sheriff's Department and getting even mare active. <br />Morelan felt neighborhood watcl~ groups worked for a lot of different <br />reasons. Ivlorelan suggested the Sheriff's Department become very <br />}~roactive aud try to geY a neighborhood watch group active in every <br />neighborhood. Morelan felt the program has not been actively promoted. <br />Wilzbacher pointed out that he has 35 CAO's Yo assist him in this effort. <br />I-Ie will be puttin~ articles on the program in local newspapers and on <br />cable TV. Wilzbacher stated he will do whatever it takes to generate the <br />activity. <br />Fahey suggested the Sheriff s Deplrtment provide cities with crime <br />prevention video which c2n be run o~~ local cable channels. <br />Wilzbacher stated that he would work with the City and would be more <br />than happy to provide some videos. <br />Fahey noted that the focus of the grant program appears to be on educating <br />the public in tenns of crime prevention. Fahey stated that he would like to <br />see an outline of the educational aspects of the program and the use of <br />media that the Sheriff's Departmei~t is plannin~. <br />Scalze pointed out that the City's newsletter is available to use as well, <br />and noted the next issue will come out toward the end of July. Scalze also <br />urs~ed Wilzbacher to conCact her or the City Administrator regarding the <br />next Multi-Family Housing Coalition meetii~g. That meeting is scheduled <br />fa~ the very near future, and it is importtint to plan for that meeting. <br />Fahey asked if CAO's who are Little Canada residents would be focusin~ <br />their efforts in Little Canada. Wilzbacher replied that they would and all <br />have indicated that is their preference. <br />4 <br />
