STAFF <br />REPORT <br />TO:Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council <br />FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager <br />DATE:May 14, 2025 <br />RE:Designation of New Building Official <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />Designate Kade Paulson as the Little Canada Building Official. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Per Minnesota state statute, each municipality must designate a building official to administer the <br />code and notify the MN Department of Labor and Industry. The previous Building Official, <br />Steve Westerhaus, is stepping down and working part-time as he plans to retire by the end of <br />2025. <br />On April 23, 2025, the City Council approved the hiring of Kade Paulson as the city’s Building <br />Official. Kade Paulson is a Certified Building Official and started as the city’s new Building <br />Official on May 5, 2025. <br />To ensure timeliness, staff submitted paperwork to the State of MN on May 5, 2025, and is <br />therefore requesting a May 5, effective date. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the City Council designate Kade Paulson as Little Canada Building Official <br />effective May 5, 2025.
