MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL AND
PARKS & RECREATION
MAY 28,1997
LaValle asked if there were seven Parks and Recreation Commission members. Johnson
replied yes, and said that one member was going to have to resign due to a work conflict.
Scalze said that the Council does look at the attendance records when deciding
reappointment. The Director said that the Commission had discussed attendance at their
last meeting.
Christensen asked if it was possible for the Commission members to view the resumes of
the Commission applicants before the members are appointed. Pedersen said maybe the
application process should be with the Commission members, and the Commission would
then make a recommendation to the Council. LaValle said he would be afraid it would
become a neighborhood popularity contest. Johnson said that it might be helpful for the
applicants to attend a meeting, and then ask them at the end why they would like to be on
the Commission.
Pedersen said maybe there should be a review process at the end of each year to evaluate
attendance. Ables said that on previous Commissions on which she has served, if a
member misses three or four consecutive meetings they are automatically replaced.
Morelan said that there are similar problems on other Commissions and that he would
bring it up at the Council meeting that evening.
Scalze thanked the Commission £or having such an active meeting.
There being no further business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at 725 p.m.
i ~
~
' ~~;C`'z2ll~ ~~ ~ `~f ,.~ '~L%,~ ~.
Beverly Sc~x ze, Acting Mayor
City Administrator
