MINUTES CITY COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 24,1997 ROAD indicated that it would not be appropriate to make significant changes to the width of the road prior to the County's project next year. Fahey stated that the Council understands the concern about young children walking to school, and will work with the County on the issue of road width in conjunction with their project. Christine Christofore reported that during the winter the road is not plowed wide enough. If the road were plowed wider, it would make room off the street surface for children to walk to school. Christofore stated that she understands the need to coordinate a widening project with the County's project, but felt that plowing the street wider this winter would help address the concern. The City Administrator reported that the City will be plowing McMenemy Street beginning this winter, and he would have Public Works look into the possibility of plowing the street wider on the west side to make an area for children walking to school. RECESS At this point in the meeting, 8:45 P.M., Council took a short recess. The meeting was reconvened at 8:50 P.M. HISTORICAL Fahey reviewed the letter submitted from the Historical Society dated SOCIETY September 12, 1997 regarding additional space for the Historical Society ADDITION as well as the City Administrator's September 19, 1997 memo. Fahey noted that the Historical Society will qualify to conduct charitable gambling in 1999, and those gambling revenues would be used as a source of funding for an addition. Fahey indicated that he favored finding a permanent home for the Historical Society and supported their efforts for an addition onto the City Center. Fahey also reported that he had a problem with having to include bathroom space as part of the addition. Fahey suggested that perhaps Lake Owasso Volunteer Council could be contacted to determine if they would be willing to provide financial assistance to upgrading the existing bathroom facilities at the City Center to meet handicapped accessibility standards. Fahey felt this would reduce the cost of the addition onto the City Center. The City Administrator reported that the architect has indicated that it is a possibility to upgrade the existing bathrooms and avoid the addition of new bathrooms in an addition.
