MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 24,1997 <br />The City Planner noted that one of his recommendations was that the <br />remnant of the mansard roof be removed and the drive-thru canopy be <br />made to match the rest of the building. <br />Mauer described the existing drive-thru canopy and indicated if it were <br />removed and replaced with a canopy matching the rest of the building, it <br />was felt the canopy would be too massive and heauy. It is their proposal <br />to paint the existing shingles to blend into the building. <br />The Planner indicated that there is a provision in the architectural <br />guidelines which says that cedar shakes are not an acceptable material. A <br />mansard roof should consist of inetal roofing materials. <br />Kennedy explained some of the other improvements that will be made to <br />the building, one of which is removal of the sun room. Kennedy reported <br />that the existing building is 10 years old and is architecturally out-of-date. <br />Kennedy reported that there is a limited amount that they can afford to do <br />to the building. Removal and replacement of the canopy would be a <br />problem, and they are trying to make the canopy blend into the existing <br />building. <br />Fahey felt that blending in the drive-thru canopy was an acceptable <br />alternative to total replacement. <br />The City Planner reported that the architectural design guidelines do not <br />prohibit neon as a decorative lighting fixture. <br />Scalze felt the plan as presented was fine <br />Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 97-9-229 - APPROVING THE ARCHITECTURAL <br />DESIGN OF THE ARBY'S RESTAURANT PROPOSED AT 2300 <br />RICE STREET SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PLANNINC COMMISSION <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Fahey, LaValle, Pedersen. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />REQUEST Council reviewed the request of Christine Christofore for the widening <br />FOR WIDENING of McMenemy Road between Rose Lane and St. John's School. Fahey <br />OF MCMENEMY pointed out that the County is planning to recycle the road in 1998 and <br />12 <br />
