MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 1997
by Chris Moarn did not have parking conveniently located next to the
theater.
Scalze asked if the vacant lot next to The Market Place Shopping Center
could be used for additional parking. The Administrator replied that that
is a possibility.
LaValle pointed out that Cinemark wouid be putting together their own
drawing for the City to respond to.
Fahey stated that he liked the idea of movin~ the bin~o hall.
Scalze su~gested that the Council work a~~ressively with the Cinemark
people as she was concerned that they may look to another city to develop.
The Administrator reported that he informed Cinemark that City
representatives are willing to meet with them. Cinemark reported that
they are putting together their drawings and anticipate having them
completed by the first or second week in January.
Hotzler stated that his only concern is that the diagram before the Council
this evening has the back of the theater facing The Market Place Shopping
Center. Hotzler felt a 48-foot hi~;h wall would hurt retailers at the
shopping center. Hotzler suggested that the theater be angled so that it
faces both roads. Grootwassink sug~;ested slidin~ the theater into the
vacant lot next to the shopping center.
Hotzler felt that once a theater is developed in the area, the rest of the
redevelopment would happen quickly.
Morelan asked if it were possible to take out the Only Deals store and
combine this area with the vacant lot to provide a theater location.
The City Administrator did not believe there would be enough property.
Hotzler agreed, and su~gested there would not be enough room unless the
Common Bond property were included. Hotzler pointed out that the
vacant lot with the Common Bond property is an ideal location. The
theater would be facing the right direction and would back up against the
railroad tracks.
The Administrator pointed out that there is not enou~h time to include the
Common Bond property as part of the proposal due to refinancing with
HUD, construction of a new building, and relocation of tenants.
4
