MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 1997
SPRINKLERING Properties with the concernin~ being that he anticipated full sprinkiering
ISSUES of the property pursuant to Code. The City Administrator was informed
that Montreal Courts is planning on sprinklering the corridors and
common areas and placing two heads in each unit. Mr. Echtenkamp has
indicated he will obtain quotes for full sprinklering of the buildings with
the financial impact to then be evaluated. It was noted that the lesser
option is the type of retrofit that we agreed to at the Grand Pre'
Apartments even though they subsequently fully sprinklered the buildings.
The Administrator reported that he has informed the Bond Counsel to
change the language in the Development Agreement to indicate that life
safety improvements would be a minimum of $620,000 to prevent a
limitation preventing full sprinklering.
The Administrator reported that his question on the issue is whether the
Council wants to require full sprinklerin~ of the property or a lesser
option. Both the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal have indicated that they are
comfortable with an approach similar to the Grand Pre' agreement.
Morelan indicated that the City should require whatever the Life Safety
Code requires for a retrofit which would be less stringent than if there
were new construction involved. Fahey and LaValle agreed.
ADJOURN Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 97-12-3I5 -ADJOURNING INTO CLOSED
SESSION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fahey.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Fahey, Morelan, Scalze, Pedersen.
Nays (0).
