MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 13, 1998
something on the Guerin and Budget Power sites that would allow existing
businesses to relocate without disiupting their businesses.
Mark Lendway, Tierney's Liquors, pointed out that the redevelopment
discussion has been ~oing on for five or six years, and questioned when it
was time to stop. Lendway felt that the existing businesses should be
~iven some peace.
Fahey pointed out that the soluYion may be to relocate the existing
businesses into a building on the Guerin and Budget Power sites.
Vitale pointed out that none of this is worth doing without a draw.
Fahey suggested that the City give Cinemark another two weeks. LaValle
asked if Moarn was confident that Kim Wise would be here in two weeks.
Ivloarn replied that he thought he would Ue here this evening. Moarn was
concerned that in tlle fi~ustration, tlie City is losing the vision for what will
happen in the area. A theater wil] provide a strong draw for the area.
Moarn felt it was worth waiting another two weeks, and indicated that he
will try his best to get i{im Wise here for the meeting.
Moarn further indicated that he feels he can design a building for the
Guerin/f3udget Power corner and h2ve it priced out within 30 days.
Moarn suggested tl~at he meeY with tl~e existing businesses to determine
their interest and the size space they would require.
Scalze asl<ed if appraisal infonnation has been submitted to the propeRy
owners.
The City Administrator replied thlt he has received the last of the review
appraisals, and tl~at information will be submitted to tl~e property owners.
Fahey stated that he would like to see redevelopment efforts scaled down
on the north side of Little Canada Road. Pedersen asked what that will do.
Fahey replied that he would like Dr. Allen's property as well as 93 West
Little Canadl Road eliminated from the City's redevelopment efforts.
Fahey pointed out the relocltion costs the City would have to pay, and
suggested thlt a private developer could ne~;otiate a better deal. Fahey
su~gested that this be discussed with Kim Wise in two weeks.
Fahey 11so indiclted that he wants to see how serious Cinemark is in this
redevelopment effort. Fahey suggested that if there are another series of
excuses in two weeks, Cinemark cannot be too serious.
