MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 13, 1998 <br />The City Administrator su~gested that the City propose the phasing of <br />construction to Cinemark so that existing businesses can be relocated <br />without an interruption in business. Fahey agreed that the existing <br />businesses must have some reasonable alternatives. <br />The City Administrator indicated that he will try to talk to the existing <br />businesses to determine their position as well as to present the review <br />appraisal information. <br />Moarn suggested that he will meet with Cinemark next week to put <br />together a formal proposaL The following week Kim Wise will be here to <br />meet with the Council. <br />Fahey suggested that a draw would llelp The Venetian Inn, but may not <br />help Tieri~ey's, Lincoln Pawn, or Ultimate Golf. <br />Vitale pointed out that one of the issues of the Mayor's campaign was the <br />redevelopment ofthe'Rice Street/Little Canada Road area. <br />Fahey stated that he did not say he would do the redevelopment in a <br />manner that would run roughshod over existing businesses. There has to <br />be a balance of relsonableness of where businesses are and what is fair. <br />Pedersen asked if the northern site was developable without a theater. <br />Moarn staTed that he would not buy land to puY in an office building <br />without a draw to the area. <br />Fahey felt the City needed to explore other alternatives and do it in a <br />reasonable time frame. <br />Sherman Rutzick asked if the City would consider a housing proposal <br />from him. Fahey su~~ested that if the theater project does not go forward, <br />that would be the next step. <br />Moarn hoped that the City would have a proposal soon as well as Kim <br />Wise at the next workshop meeting. <br />Fahey stated that ouce a proposal is in writing, the CiYy can analyze it to <br />see if it works financially 2s well as look at the timeframe and the affect <br />on existing businesses. <br />
