MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 27, 1998 <br />Scalze pointed out that when the televising of Council meetings was first <br />discussed, it was very difficult to get three Council Members to agree to <br />do it. Scalze indicated thaY tl~e concern may be that televising the <br />meetings may stifle discussion. However, Scalze felt this has not <br />hlppened at the Council level. If there is a concern about the cost, Scalze <br />suggested thlt perhaps the Council should take a lool< at how Cable <br />franchise money is being spent. Morelan pointed out that the Cable TV <br />budget is reviewed by the Council each year as a part of the budget <br />process. <br />Fahey stated that he considers is whether it is necessary to televise <br />Commission meetings due to overwhelming public interest. Fahey <br />pointed out that most of the people who have an interest in what is being <br />discussed at a Commission meeting wou(d attend the meeting and <br />participate in the disc~ission. Fahey noted that it is important to increase <br />visibility, but l~e balances that with tl~e concerns of the Commission <br />members. Fal~ey did ~iot feel there was overwhelming public interest in <br />televising these meetin~. <br />Scalze suggested that this Ue included as a question on the next <br />community survey. Fahey a~reed. <br />R~D~VELOP- The City Administrator indicated that as a result of the discussion which <br />M~NT ACTION took place iu the redevelopment workshop meeting, his recommendation <br />STEPS would be to authorice staff to work on a development agreement and lease <br />with Cinemarl< for tl~e Rice Street/Litt(e Canada Road redevelopment <br />project as well as discuss relocation issues with existing businesses. <br />Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RE.S~07, UTInN NO. 98-5-126 - A UTHORIZING THE CITY <br />ADMINI.STRATOR, CITY ATTORNEY, EHI.EKS & AS,SOCIATES, <br />AND 73RIGCb' & MORCAN TO WORK ON A DEVELOPMENT <br />AGREEMENT AND I.L'ASE ACREEMENT WITH CINEMARK FOR <br />TIIE RICE STREET/I,IT'TLE CANADA ROAD REDEVELOPMENT <br />PRO.IECT <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (5) Morelan, LaValle, Pedersen, Scalze, F1hey. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />Mr. LaValle introduced the followin~ resolution and moved its adoption: <br />
