MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 10, 1998
Morelan asked if the City has been involved in prosecuting these types of
violltions. The Attorney replied that his office would prosecute cases
involving under-age sale to persons aged 18, 19, or 20. Cases involving
minors would be handled by the County Attorney. The Attorney reported
that in reviewing his records, he does not find that he has prosecuted any
such cases in the last two to three years. There could have been cases in
which tags were issued and plea bargains m1de, however.
Morelan indicated Chat from tliis infonnation it does not appear there is a
huge problem in Little Canlda, and it appears that the liquor business
owners are doing a good job of complying with State law. Therefore, he
did not see the benefit in participatin~ in the compliauce checks. Morelan
also noted thaY given the potential fines and penalties in place, this is a
strong encoura~einei~t to business owners to uphold the law. Morelan did
not see the effectiveness that the compliance checks would have and felt
they would p11ce und~ie burde~~ on local businesses.
Mr. Fahey introduced the foliowing resolution and moved its adoption:
REb~07. The Administrator reported that the
worlc perfermed by Ehlers since the Redevelopment Guide has been
performed in anticipation of a fee once bonds for the project are issued.
However, this project has requirecl a significant amount of work and
Ehlers is requestin~ the compensation ouclined in their request dated May
27, 1998. The CiCy Aciminist~ator indicated Yhat the request is fair and
appropriate and recommended approval.
1Vlorelan asl<ed where the funds would come from. The City
Administrator replied tl~at Yhe funding would come from the
redevelopment district. lf the redevelopment project did not move
fotward, then funding would come from excess revenues from the Market
Place project.
