MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 8, 1998 <br />provide a reasonable assurance thlt the money is bein~ spent in the way it <br />was intended. <br />Cylkowsl<i reported that the County had intended to support this grant <br />application. However, was requested to sponsor a larger appiication, <br />therefore withdrew from the Sports For Life application. Cylkowski <br />indicated thlt his program would 1<eep some of this money for local <br />benefit. Cyll<owsl<i indicated thlt Sports For Life would submit its costs <br />and bud~et Yo the City Administrator for review. The $2,500 in grant <br />money being applied for would be used to provide scl~olarships to kids <br />who could not afford to participate otherwise. <br />Fahey expressed concern about the City sponsoring a grant application for <br />a private organization, ~nd expressed concern about the salaries for people <br />runnin~ the program. <br />Cyllcowsl<i replied that this w~s ~ non-profit organizatia~, and there would <br />be i~o salaries ~aid with tl~ese grant fiinds. <br />Scalze asI<ed iPtlle schollrships would be limited to LitHe Canada <br />participants. <br />Cylkows]<i re}~lied Yhat l~e is pro~osing the program be open to ~irls from <br />Little Cluada 1nd Mapiewood aud the surrounding area. <br />Fahey stated that he felt the scholarships should be limited to Little <br />Cauad~ participai~ts as well as ~articipants from those cities that normally <br />participate in the City's recreation pro~rams. <br />Cyll<owslci indicated tl~at this was l~is intent. Cyll<owsl<i also pointed out <br />that if Sports For Life does not obtlin for these funds, the money will go <br />elsewhere and will bene6t other children.
