MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 28,1998
The City Planner pointed out that the plat shows 37.5 feet of right-of-way.
The standard right-of-way width is 50 feet. The City Administrator noted
that there is 12.5 feet of easement from the parcels to the east, which
would then total the required 50 feet.
The Council asked about the location of the road within the 50 feet. The
City Administrator replied that the road does meander within the ri~ht-of-
way in order to avoid trees.
Morelan stated that assuming there is 12.5 feet of right-of-way on the west
side of the street adjacent to the Kimmes property, Morelan asked if the
new road wou(d go down the center of the property. The Planner replied
that that is correct. Morelan asked if the road would connect to the looped
portion of street. The Planner replied that that is the intent. Morelan
noted that in this circumstance a cul-de-sac would not be required at the
end of the street. The Planner a~reed.
Morelan asked if the existing road is 24 feet wide from face-of-curb to
face-of-curb. Kimmes replied that Gilanderi Lane is 24 feet wide.
However, there is currently curbing on only one side. Kimmes reported
that the road would be continued south at a 24-foot width with curbing on
both sides.
Fahey asked if there was anyone from the general public present wishin~
to comment on this matter.
David Farley, 777 East Viking Drive, expressed concern that the roadway
would encroach further onto his property. Farley pointed out that his
house is about 10 feet from the roadway now. It was pointed out that the
paved road would come no closer to the Farley house.
Farley also asked whether or not any filling was ~oin~ to be done in
upgrading the road. Farley felt it would not be possible to add fill given
the existing 45-degree slope on the southern end of his property.
Fahey noted that the road will not extend any further east than already
exists. Widening of the road will occur to the west.
Farley indicated that there is a ridge that runs through the Kimmes
property which wiil not allow drainage from the north to flow south,
Kimmes agreed and indicated that the ridge will prohibit water from
running south into Lot 5.
