MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 25, 1998
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Scalze, Fahey, Pedersen, LaValle.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
COUNTY Council reviewed the results of the survey of County Road B-2
ROAD B-2 residents regarding the renaming of the street. The results were that 15
property owners supported a name change, 13 were against, and 4 did not
return surveys. It was noted that the ori~inal survey indicated that no
response would be considered a"no" vote.
George Lynch, 692 East County Road B-2, appeared before the Council to
report that he strongly opposed the name change. Lynch asked the
purpose of the name change, and pointed out the results of the survey.
Lynch felt that the four property owners who did not respond should be
considered as "no" votes. Lynch was concerned about the inconvenience
that a name change would cause.
Fahey reported that the rational for changing the name of the street is that
County Road B-2 is no longer a"County" street, but rather has been
turned over to the City. It was thought that renaming the street would be
less confusing for emergency services.
Scalze pointed out that the property owners are almost equally split on this
issue. Scalze stated that she was not excited about chan~ing the name of
the street, and pointed out that if property owners change their minds, the
Council can revisit the issue.
LaValle agreed there was not overwhelming support for the name change.
Pedersen did not believe the name change would be a major problem, and
thought that the Post Office would allow a transition period for mail
delivery.
Morelan indicated that the reasons for changing the name of the street are
valid. Those reasons are that the street is no longer a County road,
therefore, the name may be misleading to property owners along the street
who have maintenance concerns. A(though there have been no delays
with accessing this street by emergency vehicles, it may be more
advantageous to have the street renamed, ~iven that there is another
section of County Road B-2 on the west side of the freeway. Morelan felt
that the issue boils down to what is the right thing to do, and did not feel
the issue should be decided based on popularity.
