MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 11, 1999
Fahey asked if there was a compromise that could be reached suggesting that the
City limit the amount of outdoor storage that would be allowed. Fahey pointed
out the City's issuance of the licenses for auto repair and auto wholesale as well
as the fact that the City has been lax in enforcing the code for the past 20 years.
Fahey also suggested that the business owner may be able to modify his
business so that there is less storage of parts.
The City Administrator indicated that staff can meet with the business owner to
discuss the options. However, he noted that the City has not allowed the
screening and storage of general debris.
Morelan again stated that it will not be possible to screen this stora~e totally
without puttin~ the materials inside a building.
Fahey suggested that the business has been in existence for 20 years, and it
would not be reasonable for the City to expect immediate compliance with the
Code. Fahey suggested that perhaps the City should give the property owner a
couple of years to bring this site into compliance.
LaValle suggested that the Zoning Administrator and the City Administrator
work with Carlson to limit the number of vehicles, develop screening options,
and phase out the salvage portion of the business. The Administrator agreed to
meet with Mr. Carison to see if some options could be developed that would
work for him while still meeting the intent of the ordinance.
The suggestion of the addition of an accessory building for storage was made.
Fahey asked if this would increase parking requirements. The Zoning
Administrator indicated that an accessory building would not increase parking
requirements, however, an addition onto a existing building would.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption
RESOI, UTION NO. 99-8-204 - TAI3LING ACTION ON THE CUP
APPLICATIONF OR OPEN ANI) OUTDOOR STORAGE OF
CON.STRUCTION EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, AND CAR STORAGE AS
ANACCESSORY USE FOR 3T 76 SPRUCE STREET UNTIL THE AUGUST
25, 1999 COUNCII.
