MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 25, 1999 <br />RESOI.UTIONNO. 99-8-226-APPROVINC THE CONSENT <br />AGENDA WHICH CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING: <br />*APPROVING PAY REQUEST # 3 FOR 1999 IMPROVBMENTS; <br />*ACCEPTING THE 1998 A UDIT REPORT AND <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AS SUBMITTED <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Morelan, Pedersen, Fahey. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />REZONING The Council reviewed the Planner's report regarding the concept of <br />CONCEPT - rezoning the Buetow and McCumber properties located on the southeast <br />BUETOW & corner ofEdgerton Street and County Road D from I-1 to B-1, RB, or R-1. <br />McCUMBER <br />PROPERTIES Mr. Ed McCumber appeared before the Council and reported that the <br /> Council had previously referred to his property as the Arcade Electric <br /> property. McCumber wanted to go on record as reporting that he and his <br /> wife are the owners of the property, not Arcade Electric. McCumber also <br /> reported that as a result of the Council's discussion about the possible <br /> rezoning of his property, he has had inquiries from customers and vendors. <br /> McCumber reported that he has several renters at his site, and felt that the <br /> discussion of a possible rezoning affects his business and property causing <br /> property valuesto decrease. <br />Fahey noted that the Comprehensive Plan identifies the Buetow and <br />McCumber properties as being spot-zoned Light-Industrial. Fahey <br />indicated that there is no discussion about the possible discontinuation of <br />the current uses of the property. Should the properties be rezoned, uses <br />that were legally established under the current zonin~ would be <br />grandfathered in. <br />McCumber felt that the City Planner's report was proposing the <br />demolition of existing buildings should the properties be rezoned. Fahey <br />indicated that there is no advocacy by anyone on the Council for the <br />demolition of buildings. <br />Morelan noted that the Planner's report stated that in order to prepare the <br />site for.a residential use, existin~ buildin~s would have to be removed. <br />The point being made is that the existin~ buildings could not be used for a <br />residential use. <br />McCumber asked why the Council was against small business.
