MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 22, 1999
The Planner indicated that RB zonin~ would not Pit the current uses given
that RB permits small office uses and a limited amount of retail. The
Planner again indicated that contractor's shops are allowed in BW.
McCumber indicated that Arcade Electric is one of five businesses on his
property. There are also people renting the mini-stalls on the site for
business storage. McCumber indicated that a change in zoning would
affect not only current businesses, but future businesses as well.
Scalze asked if the tenants stored trucks on the property. McCumber
replied that trucks are not stored. They are in and out of the site.
McCumber expressed concern about a comment that was made at the
Planning Commission meeting that if a tenant vacated the property for
more than six months, a new tenant would have to meet the conditions of
the new zonin~.
Fahey indicated that he was interested in the BW zoning and the effect this
zoning would have on the Buetow and McCumber properties. Fahey
wanted to know if BW would accommodate the existing uses while
preventing the expansion of industrial use.
Scalze pointed out that the same uses allowed in Ryan Industrial Park
would be allowed on the Buetow and McCumber properties. While there
has been no concern with the uses of the McCumber property, the City
does not want to see the industrial use intensified.
Mrs. McCumber pointed out that a rezonin~; of the property would limit
their potential for renters.
LaValle suggested that the concept rezonin~ issue be tabled to allow
research of the BW zoning and its effect on the McCumber and Buetow
properties. Fahey agreed, and suggested that the BW zone may reduce the
long-term impact to the neighborhood.
Scalze su~~ested that the City may want to preclude outdoor stora~e on
this property. LaValle pointed out that there is no outdoor storage now.
Fahey suggested that PUD zonin~ may also be an option to consider.
Mrs. McCumber pointed out that the Mayor and Council are elected by the
citizens of Little Canada. She questioned why they were not listening to
the voice ofthe people pointing out the petition that was submitted with
signatures of approximately 175 property owners who indicated they had
no problem with the present zonin~; of the property.
12
